Ages 13 & up
Description:
In this hands-on course, students will learn essential sewing skills—both hand-stitching and machine-based techniques—to create unique, upcycled garments. Focusing on mending, patchworking, and customization, students will transform pieces that they no longer wear from their own wardrobe into a personalized piece of garment that reflects their creativity and style.
Beyond technique, this course introduces the importance of sustainable fashion practices and their impact on the environment. Students will explore how upcycling and mending can give new life to meaningful items, promoting a mindset of repair and reuse over waste. By the end of the class, students will have crafted a one-of-a-kind, eco-conscious piece while gaining valuable skills to continue creating sustainably in the future.
Due to the immersive nature of this course, class time will be packed with activity, and students should expect to use open studio hours or work at home to complete projects. This class is for serious, dedicated artists ready to commit to developing their practice and vision.
