At the core of Refuge Art School are the students, many of whom have grown up within the program and continue to shape what it becomes. Sorieya is one of those students. Over the past Ten years, she has been an integral part of the Refuge community, evolving through multiple roles: student artist, muralist, volunteer, event support, and now co-teacher.
Sorieya’s journey reflects the kind of growth we strive to support. She has developed her artistic voice while also stepping into leadership, giving back to the same community that supported her. Even while attending UMass Amherst, she continues to return for major events, showing a strong commitment to the space and the people within it.
Her story is a reminder that Refuge is more than a place to take classes. It is a space where young artists build skills, find direction, and grow into leaders who carry that experience forward.
