Urban Healing: Our Final 2024 Mural at Stoklosa Middle School in Collaboration with Project Learn

Updated: Dec 18, 2024

We are so excited to share our progress from the last three weeks of pulling this mural together. What started as a modest plan quickly grew into something much bigger—organically and beautifully. Along the way, we faced plenty of challenges: moving ladders constantly, enduring four rainstorms, and working through the heat and humidity on a south-facing wall.

It was all worth it.

This mural would not have been possible without the support of Project Learn, who generously funded the project and helped us bring this vision to life. Most of our team was made up of students from Stoklosa Middle School, a place that holds special meaning for many of us—some of us first met there over eight years ago. It truly feels like a full-circle project, and I wouldn’t have wanted to work on this wall with anyone else.

My love for these young artists runs deep, and I am so proud of them. #girlpower

We hope this mural reminds everyone to notice the “weeds” that grow around us because every plant has a purpose. Many of these urban plants have medicinal and healing properties. Just to name a few:

  • Mullein: Heals ear infections, lungs, and inflammation.

  • Red Clover: Aids in women’s health.

  • Dandelions: Support liver detox and overall well-being.

Additionally, many pollinators rely on these plants to thrive. We hope this mural encourages everyone to think twice about using pesticides or poisons on Mother Nature and to appreciate the beauty and purpose of what grows around us.

We are so proud to share this message with our community.

Come visit the mural at the corner of School St. and Rock St. at Stoklosa Middle School!

A huge thank you again to Project Learn for making this possible.
